What Is a Leased Line and
Dedicated Internet Access?

If you are comparing a leased line, a dedicated internet connection and managed broadband, here is the short answer: they describe the same idea. One internet line, rented by one business, that nobody else shares.

A leased line runs from your office straight into the operator's network. The speed you pay for is the speed you get — at 9am on a Monday and at 11pm on a Friday. Nothing else is sharing it.

Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) is simply another name for it. In the UAE you will also hear dedicated internet line, dedicated internet connection, internet leased line and managed broadband. When a provider in Dubai offers you any of these, they are offering one product.

Normal business broadband works the other way round. It is contended — shared with other companies in your building and your area. When they get busy, you slow down. A leased line is uncontended. That one word is the whole price difference, and the whole reason banks, government bodies and large enterprises buy it.

How much does a leased line cost in Dubai?

There is no single list price, and any provider quoting one before seeing your address is guessing. Leased lines are priced per site, because the cost of physically reaching your building is a real part of the bill.

Every leased line is quoted individually, on 12, 24 or 36-month terms. Where du fibre already serves your building the price is lower; where new civil work is needed, it is higher. That is why we run a free coverage check first and then send a written quote — normally within 2 working days.

Five things move the number: bandwidth (the biggest factor), your location and last-mile availability, whether you add a backup link, your SLA level, and your contract term. We check all five before quoting, and the quote comes in writing with no obligation.

A leased line is a private internet connection rented by one business. It runs from your premises straight into the operator's network and is not shared with anyone else, so the speed you contract is the speed you get at all times. In the UAE it is usually bought as du Managed Broadband Premium.

In practice, yes. Dedicated internet access, DIA, dedicated internet line, dedicated internet connection and internet leased line all describe the same thing: uncontended, symmetrical bandwidth with a service level agreement. Strictly speaking the leased line is the physical circuit and DIA is the internet service carried over it, but providers use the terms interchangeably.

Business broadband is shared with other companies nearby, gives you a much lower upload speed than download, and carries no contractual SLA. A leased line is dedicated and symmetrical, and includes static IPs, a managed router, 24×7 monitoring and a written SLA. Broadband suits shops, clinics and small offices. A leased line suits any operation where downtime or slow uploads cost money.

From 2 Mbps up to 10 Gbps, symmetrical at every level — meaning upload matches download. You can increase bandwidth later as the business grows, and the managed router supplied is matched to the speed you subscribe to.

Every connection includes a block of 8 static IPs, of which 5 are usable for your services. If you add the optional backup link, 3 remain usable. Static IPs are needed for VPN gateways, mail and web servers, remote CCTV access and POS systems. Extra blocks can be added at additional cost.

It covers three things end to end: how quickly the service is delivered, how available it must remain, and how fast it is restored after a fault. A Standard SLA is included by default. An optional Premium SLA adds tighter targets and a rebate if they are missed. You also receive monthly SLA reports, which most compliance teams accept as evidence.

du does. The router — typically a Cisco 4321, 4431, ASR 1K or 3650-S depending on your bandwidth — is supplied by default, owned by du, and maintained, updated and replaced by du for as long as the service is active. Your IT team does not have to manage it.

Pricing is set per site, because the cost of bringing fibre to your building is part of it. The main factors are bandwidth, your location and last-mile availability, whether you need a backup link, your SLA level and the contract term. We do not publish a single price, because a figure quoted before seeing your address would be a guess. We check du coverage at your exact location, then send a written quote — usually within 2 working days — showing the monthly cost, any activation charge and your SLA options, itemised.

Where du fibre is already in the building, delivery usually takes a few weeks once the paperwork is approved. Where new civil work or a building entry is required it takes longer. The free site survey tells us which situation applies, and we give you a realistic date in the quote rather than after you sign.

Yes. A common enterprise design puts a high-capacity line at head office, routes branch traffic through it, and adds a disaster-recovery site behind it. Static IPs allow secure site-to-site VPNs between locations, and everything arrives on one bill with one escalation path.

A valid UAE trade licence, Emirates ID or passport copy of the authorised signatory, and the tenancy contract or Ejari for each installation address. Stalwart prepares and submits the du application for you, so you only need to sign.
